The importance of cyber resilience has never been greater. Digital technologies bring enormous opportunities for Scottish public services – but they also bring with them new threats and vulnerabilities that we must take decisive action to manage.

You must be customer focused and be able to balance security requirements with business needs while ensuring operational compliance with relevant legislation, regulation and security standards such as ISO27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, PSN, PCI DSS and GDPR.

You will undertake technical and security audits of in-house and hosted third party applications and systems to ensure that their security and integrity is fit for purpose

 Knowledge, Experience and skill set required

You must have an Honours degree or at least 5 years equivalent experience in a Cyber security type role.
A strong knowledge of cyber security, business continuity and technical compliance to support the implementation of compliance measures in a complex environment.
General understanding of the general legislative, compliance and regulatory environment that affects information governance.
Experience of working with a range of IT security technologies along with working within a regulatory and compliance environment.
Evidence of competence in project management, management reporting, analytical, numerical, presentational and interpersonal skills are essential.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
It is essential that you have a full driving license.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £34,376.18 per annum.

Responsibilities

The post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
