The Council is seeking an individual with the enthusiasm and capability for a career in cyber security. Based at the Civic Square in Motherwell you will be part of a team whose remit is to design, develop and maintain the Council’s ICT infrastructure, meeting the needs of its internal customers by utilising and developing new IT solutions that make best use of technology to provide efficient, secure and effective services. This post is within the Security Team within the Infrastructure Section, working predominately on aspects of organisational compliance and internal governance.
With an SVQ4, HND or equivalent in a related discipline and trained in generic infrastructure technologies security principles, or Security solutions and appliances you will have demonstrable detailed knowledge of at least two security related technological disciplines.
You must have significant experience of operating in an ICT operational, development or technical support role or of role fulfilment in a Cyber Security environment, with some exposure to dealing with Cyber Security issues and the development or application of operational security controls.
You will have a working understanding of IT security controls, be able to demonstrate some exposure to IT security issues and preferably an understanding of IT Security principles, practices and methodology. It will be beneficial to have a good understanding of Local Authority technology operations, applications and solutions. Self-motivated, you must be able to work to objectives and meet targets, whilst reacting appropriately and quickly to challenges. You will be an excellent communicator with organisational skills; report writing is a key skill and you must have the confidence and ability to present information to others in a meaningful, concise and appropriate manner.
Project management experience or involvement of delivering large scale IT project work would be advantageous as would experience of security technologies, such as Firewalls, identity and network access, certificate handling and network edge infrastructure and security.
You must have an understanding of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery principles including a basic understanding of risk management and its application to IT Security principles, practices and methodology. Ideally, you will have an understanding and experience of PSN,PCI and Cyber Security compliance legislation, and will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Cyber Security standards and guidelines.
Being accredited or have experience in Cyber Security and other ICT or associated practices i.e. ITIL, Prince2, Management of Risk, etc would be desirable.
We will provide you with training and experience of cyber security and cyber threat management in a large corporate organisation. If you do not already hold a cyber security qualification, the Council will place you on a multi-year training programme, which will require your commitment to the organisation for a minimum of two years from completion.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a basic criminal conviction check through Disclosure Scotland.
